Red River Gorge

Page 1

Red River Gorge is a beautiful area of Kentucky with deep valleys and high cliff walls. While there are interesting rock formations including balancing rocks, pinnacles, and recess caves, the area is best known for its natural arches. There are around a hundred arches and no other place in the world has as many in as small an area.

I visited the area for a few days in June of 2005 and hiked six short trails. The first evening I spent sitting on top of Sky Bridge enjoying views in both directions until nearly dark. The second evening I enjoyed the view from Chimney Top. The following morning I hiked to Courthouse Rock, and of the views that I got to see in the area, my favorite was this one.

Red River Gorge area is located about fifty miles east   of Lexington in east-central Kentucky.
